Senate bill 509

AN ACT concerning income taxation; relating to tax credits for education expenses; providing an education opportunity tax credit for taxpayers with eligible dependent children not enrolled in public school. This bill has been passed out of committee and will be voted on soon. This is an education tax credit, which does include non-accredited private schools (homeschools). Non-accredited private schools would get 50% of base aid. It is refundable which means families would get any money above their tax liability back as a refund.

Contact your representative in the Kansas Senate and let them know your opinion on this bill!

There are always concerns with a bill that gives money to homeschool families because some type of information, proof, etc., is usually required in order to show eligibility. Kansas homeschool families enjoy so much freedom currently, and there is always concern with what could be required in the future if families are given money from the government. Because this is a tax refund, families can choose to participate or not. Make your voice heard to your representative so they know YOUR opinion on this bill.
